Catching up

I haven't been able to blog much lately, one can only guess how that goes with two babies :P So here I try to catch up with a bunch of pics that has been hanging out in my camera for a while.

You know how in art class things look smaller far away... Daddy feeding Sophie and Hannah seems so small and far away on the couch.

If I zoom in a little closer does that help?

There she is, Hannah is getting bigger everyday, we weighed her the other day at Eric and Liz's and estimate her to be about 8 lbs!!!

Aunty Vonk came to visit the twins, here she rocks out with Hannah.

Tummy time with mommy! Here Sophie (on left) and Hannah (on right) get their exercises on the cute blanket that Grandma and Grandpa Sakai gave to us.

Sophie likes her tummy time.

Hannah doesn't.

Hannah knows that the binky is no substitute for the real deal and let's mommy know.

Mommy knows how to make Hannah happy :)

Now mommy is happy too!

Grandma and Grandpa Kage arrived this past Thursday, I have yet to take pics of them with the twins tomorrow hopefully I will remedy that!!!

A Night Out

Hmmm...daddy sure knows how to take nice pics of mommy (NOT!), but Sophie looks so cute napping :)

More napping shots, you wait 'til I find some great shots of daddy to post up :P

Here is Hannah and mommy. Yup, daddy sure can take them great shots of mommy especially when she's not wearing make-up :P We ate at Claim Jumper at the Pacific Commons in Fremont.

The pass off to daddy. Hannah holding daddy's pinky and eating.

Sonya and Hsin take turns feeding Sophie.

Grandpa Sakai and Grandma Sakai.

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Happy Birthday Daddy!
Love your girls

Taken a while back, but one of my favorite pics. Emi looks on as the girls (Sophie on left and Hannah on right) show off their coming home outfits. The only thing missing is Kiki :(

Oh there Kiki is, but she's too darn fast.

Okay that's all, love you bye bye!

My Favorite Things

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Sophie and Hannah doing their favorite thing (well...next to eating of course).

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Hannah napping on mommy.

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

I can count says Sophie (sitting on Grandma Sakai), 1...2...3...4...5...

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad

I've got this song stuck in my head, I must watch "The Sound of Music", so I can get it out of my head!!! Anyway if I hum this song or sing it to the babies they seem to like it :)

Differences

If you ever met Sophie and Hannah and spent time with them you'd find out that Hannah is very mellow and Sophie is not so much. Not that Sophie gives us that much trouble, but when you compare them side by side the difference is very clear who's who.

Sophie is not a happy camper as we can clearly see here. What a face!!!

The swaddle usually calms her down as we can see here in the famous Derek burrito wrap 1 minute later.

Awww what a sweet face...close up of a Sophie that's surrendered to one of the famous 5 S's (for non-parent types 5 S's is Swaddling, Side or Stomach, Shhhhhh, Swinging, and Sucking).

Hannah meanwhile gives us a silent impression of Popeye the sailor hahahhahaah. Okay I'm mean, but you got to admit it's pretty funny.

The babies went to the pediatrician's office on Monday and got the thumbs up on their growth.

Twin Specs as of Sept 17th:

Hannah is 6.1 lbs, 18 inches in length

Sophie is 6.14 lbs, 19.25 inches in length

We bumped into Aunty Elisa at the doctor's office (what a coincidence same day, same time, and same building), but forgot to take pics :( Then Aunty Elisa came over the next night with Aunty Cynthia and we still forgot to take pics!!! Thank you for bringing some desserts over!!!

I've been reading up on the twin forums (yes I have time when I can't sleep in-between feedings) and funny how everyone's experiences are somewhat similar, but I find the few times we do go out with the twins we do get a bit of attention from people. The ladies on the forum say that when the twin babies are young they get a lot of attention, but when they grow up to be toddlers they are no longer an attraction. Strangely enough this proved to be true so far (we'll find out later if people lose interest). We've had people stop us at the hospital, doctor's office, restaurant, and store. I haven't been outside of the house too often, so I can't really say if it was just a coincidence or what, but it's really, really strange to have that kind of attention...

Firsts and Loads of pics!!!

Grandpa feeding Sophie - see the I love Grandpa bib :)

Grandma feeding Hannah - see the I love Grandma bib :)

Feeding in session woohoo!

These pics were taken on this past Friday. You know if my camera didn't have the dates on the pics I would never remember, thank goodness for digital cams!!! The days seem to blend into each other, Derek and I can't remember which day is which anymore.

The next day we took these pics:

I put Sophie and Hannah in the pack 'n play portable playpen crib downstairs and had them sleeping next to each other :)

They make funny poses when they're not wrapped up in their burrito swaddle. Poor Hannah gets beat up by Sophie with all that arm swinging. Things never change because in the womb Sophie used to kick and punch Hannah in the ultrasounds we saw.

Today we had given them their first real baths. Here Sophie is the guinea pig. I think the water might've been too cold for her :(

Hannah didn't cry once, but I think by then we got the bath water right.

Daddy feeding Sophie and getting a lot of attention from the staff at the restaurant, talk about chick magnet! Oh wait there was one male waiter gawking on too...hmmm..

Today we took the twins out for the first time, we went to Oriental Tea House. I was concerned about going out before the 1 month mark, but read online that it should be okay as long as no one touches them and that no one is coughing in the near vicinity. Plus Sonya re-assured me that the online info was correct, but overall it comes down to the comfort level of the parents (Thanks Sonya!). We wanted to take the grandparents out and experience the dim sum here in the bay area.

Just past the two week mark

Together with a wink and a smile... A little Harry Connick Jr rendition.

Hey, I got a secret pssss psss psss

Rapper Hannah banana and Sophie M awwww yeah!

Awwwww I love that bib (Hannah in pic)! Thank you Aunty Marian for the cute bibs.

Hannah finally lost her umbilical stump yesterday yay! Which means bath time here we come, although daddy is still hesitant on giving them a real bath so we're gonna wait a few more days.

In other news...we heard stories about triple poo diapers from some friends of ours and finally got to experience it with Hannah today. I guess we found out the hard way that both Hannah and Sophie do not like Enfamil formula. Suckymoto!!! Sophie hurled the formula up kind of like that scene in "The Exorcist" and that pretty much did it for me, no more Enfamil for the twins! So back to Similac and some good old fashion mother's milk.

Besides the formula set back the twins seem to be coming along just fine as far as weight goes. Every time I hold them I feel them getting heavier and heavier. Of course I'm no professional, so I'll leave that to the doc to tell me on Monday on how everything is going.

Two burrito babies

Yesterday and today the babies hung out with Grandpa and Grandma Sakai while mommy and daddy ran some errands. The twins had the usual hanging out with us and doing the usual eat, sleep, and poo.

They were up at the same time tonight and I had to take pics as I am an obsessed mama with the camera.

Can you guess who did which burrito wrap??? Sophie on the left and Hannah on the right...

Ok, if you guessed that I did Sophie's wrap then you're right. Derek did Hannah's :P

Boppy party

Big boppy and little boppy oh what fun!!!

Hey could you get us some milk over here, yeah I'm talking to you :P

The service here is slow I think I'm gonna fall asleep.

Satisfied, content, and full big boppy and little boppy fast asleep.

Yesterday Sophie's umbilical stump fell off and I was grossed out. It just reminded me of that episode in Sex in the City where the character Miranda was cleaning up her baby when the stump fell off and her cat was playing with it. Miranda's character is a strong willed lawyer, but when it came to the stump she broke down and called her boyfriend to handle the situation. It was hilarious and if you saw that episode you know what I'm talking about.

Hannah's umbilical stump is still hanging in there... Yeah, makes great conversation huh? I figure it is a moment I should blog as it marks an era where the babies can take a real bath and to parents that is a big moment, at least in my opinion it is.

Other than that it's been uneventful as the girls have been great to us. Derek has mastered the burrito technique of swaddling the babies as you can tell from the pic of Sophie in the boppy. I, on the other hand, still need practice. My swaddling has issues with the little ones poking their hands out the top of the blankets. My girls love to suck on their hands signaling they're hungry and they are little Houdini's when it comes to feeding time (busting out of even the tightest burrito swaddle). They're finding out that crying loudly is much more effective than busting that hand loose.

Still *knocks on wood* they are for the most part pretty good about crying and Derek and I thank the lucky stars that they're such good babies... So far.
